Embark on an extraordinary sonic voyage with Luke Jerram’s breathtaking installation, Mars, presented through a deeply immersive listening experience curated by Christina McMaster, pianist, composer and visionary founder of Lie Down and Listen, alongside the innovative award-winning composer and sensory designer, Tom Middleton.

As you recline on soft, supportive mattresses, you'll be invited to deeply relax and expand your perception, simulate your imagination, transcending the bounds of Earth’s gravity and atmosphere.

Here, the auditory rules of our world dissolve into the unique, otherworldly conditions of Mars and the vastness of space.

Drawing from authentic data points gathered from Mars exploration, Tom and Christina have created an epic and emotional soundscape of acoustic and electronic music that echoes the scientific discoveries about our celestial neighbour.

You’ll connect to something beyond yourself - a spiritual experience that not only propels us to contemplate humanity's future physical expansion into the cosmos but also challenges us to reimagine space and expansion from a deeply personal, introspective perspective—all while remaining grounded here on Earth.

While Earth remains our only home, this sonic journey is designed to bring into sharp focus the stark differences and profound challenges of life on Mars. Through this powerful sense of awe, we hope to inspire a re-evaluation of our priorities and a renewed understanding of our place in the universe.

FAQs

What shall I bring?

All mattresses, cushions and blankets are provided, so just bring yourselves and anything else you'd like to ensure your comfort.

What shall I wear?

I recommend wearing something super comfortable and bringing a few layers and even a pair of extra socks. The body temperature can drop when lying down so it's good to be prepared, then you can focus on absorbing the beautiful vibrations.

When shall I arrive?

I recommend arriving 10-15mins prior to the session to allow yourself enough time to get checked in, take your shoes of and settle onto your mattress and the space.

Can I take pictures?

You're very welcome to take pictures before and after the session, but to protect each others privacy, we ask that you ensure phones are off during the session.

I'm pregnant, can I lie on my side?

Of course! This is about your comfort, so however you feel most comfortable is

Do I need to know how to meditate?

No, these sessions are about the sound and music, there will be elements of meditation (focusing) but this will all be guided and supported by the sound and music.
